2019 Subaru Ascent Set to Wow the Full-Size SUV Segment

The three-row Subaru, unveiled as a concept vehicle at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, will be an all-new large SUV model for the 2019 model year, and it's set to debut as a production-ready model at the LA Auto Show in late November. Following in the tradition of Subaru Tribeca, the new Subaru Ascent looks to be a trifecta of family-friendliness, capability, and appeal to die-hard Subie enthusiasts, and seating for up to seven is just the beginning of the adventure.

Rumors are swirling, and there's a good chance some may turn out to be excitingly true. 2019 Ascent promises to be built on the new Subaru Global Platform, offering prospects for a drive-time adaptable, refined, and most of all, top-tier safety. It'll likely incorporate a brand-new turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine which, pairing with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, expected standard, should mean the height of control, balance, and driving ease across rough terrain and through inclement weather.

Inside, we think we can count on a capacious full-size SUV cabin, complete with the luxury of second-row captain's chairs. In fact, the new Subaru Ascent appears designed a size-grade above class contenders like Honda Pilot, Kia Sorento, Toyota Highlander, and Volkswagen Atlas, with a sprawling overall length around 198.8 inches atop an approximately 117-inch wheelbase. It'll also weigh in at around 78.3 inches wide and 72.4 inches tall, making for one inspiring presence.

What's more, Ascent will roll into 2019 designed exclusively for the North American market and manufactured at the Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana. That means we can expect an eye to more than a few features of interest to American road warriors, including an expansive tablet-style infotainment system pairing with a screen at the rear of the center console for passengers. EyeSight driver assist tech will figure prominently, too, perhaps with collision avoidance, lane keep assist, or adaptive cruise control elements standard, but time will tell.

We at Sellers Subaru await this one with high hopes. In the meantime, though, that doesn't mean forgoing the new Subaru SUV experience.
